SUSTAINABILITY

The road to sustainability begins with a journey to discover green excellences: the MEDICOM docufilm “Future Seeds” is now online and available internationally for streaming on Prime Video, after a special screening hosted on June 13th at the XVIII Biodiversity Festival in Milan. There we were able to interact with the audience on the themes of sustainability and concrete chances to give one’s contribution to building a better future starting from the real challenges that climate change brings.

This docufilm is the first ever international project within format MEDICOM, and it was born as an idea to narrate the bond between people’s health and the health of the planet  through an emotional storytelling.

“Future Seeds” follows the story of Elsa, an italian journalist who seeks to collect info about climate change and about the european projects that are concretely doing something in terms of innovating and coming up with sustainable solution for a better future for everyone. The docufilm also follows Anne, Elsa’s young niece, a Gen Z girl who struggles with eco-anxiety, who’s jaded and frustrated before the overload of news about the planet’s health and is also deeply disappointed in adults. The two of them start an “on the road” journey to tell the stories of a few green excellences in Europe in many fields: from urban planning to design, from italian eco-artist Iena Cruz’s works to pioneering projects for seabed regeneration. Science, art, technology and social activism: all these pieces fit into the broad picture of the road of the two main characters, who will also experience emotional growth alongside their learning experience.

For me one of the most significant experience during the work in progress for “Future Seeds”, even now that more than one year after the end of the shooting phase has passed, was being able to exchange knowledge and ideas with the many international guests we had. I am very grateful to have worked with each of them: they all laid down their own unique perspectives on sustainability, which became the starting point for many different plot points in our film, one enriching conversation at a time.
